Abstract

<PICT:0772344/IV(a)/1> A liquid resin component is fed to the inlet 6 and a water catalyst to the inlet 14 of a spray mixing device, (see Group XXIX), and the resin component is sprayed from an annular discharge passage 23. The catalyst is sprayed at high velocity from an inner bell-shaped passage 43 by means of air under pressure supplied to the device which mixes with the catalyst before its discharge. The aircatalyst spray forms an inner spray cone which picks up the resin component from the outer spray passage 23, and the mixture impinges against the inner wall of a cylinder 80. The mixture foams as it runs down the wall and is collected in a receptacle. The resin component may comprise tolylene diisocyanate to which is added castor oil and polyethylene glycol, in which case the catalyst consists of diethylethanolamine, hydrochloric acid and distilled water.
