Abstract

1327064 Forming spherical particles IDEKI KK 18 Nov 1970 54878/70 Heading B5A Spherical particles of synthetic resin are produced by dissolving the resin in a solvent to form a liquid of viscosity 60-200 centistokes, spraying the solution in the presence of a separation agent, recovering the mixture, removing the separation agent therefrom and drying the product. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises a shallow tank 2 with a tank 4 inverted thereon to form a chamber 5. A set of annular sprayers 8 having nozzles 7 are placed at opposite ends of the chamber 5 for spraying separation agent 15. Sprayers 6 are placed centrally thereof for spraying the solution 9 from pipe 10 sprayed under pressure of compressed air from pipe 11. A further dispersing pipe 13 having nozzles 12 extends around the top of the chamber 5 for spraying more separation agent 15, pipe 13 and sprayers 8 all being connected to the same feed pipe 14. The mixture 19 of separation agent and powder is fed through hole 3, pipe 18 to tank 17 and thence to a centrifugal separator (not shown) via pipe 21. The resin may be epoxy, acrylic, cellulose derivatives, polyvinyl acetal, vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, polyethylene, nylon, polyvinyl chloride. The separation agent may be water, preferably deionized, hot water, steam, petroleum, solvent naphtha, mineral turpentine. In an alternative embodiment, tank 2 is filled with separation agent 15 and the nozzles for spraying the solution 9 are put into it.
