Abstract

Continuous process for the spray drying of large volumes of a synthetic detergent slurry, in a spray drying tower and for the production of a granular composition of synthetic detergents that has a controlled density and a reduced and uniform particle size, with minimal production of dust particles and other gaseous effluents; characterized in that it comprises the following steps: (1) preparing an aqueous slurry of synthetic detergent having approximately 10 to 50% by weight of water and a solids content of 50 to 90%, said slurry being composed of at least an organic synthetic detergent and at least one detergent additive selected from organic or inorganic additives and mixtures thereof; (2) establishing inside the chamber of the spray tower (a) a drying zone of cylindrical configuration passing through the axis of the chamber hot drying air up through said chamber in a cyclonic movement and (b) a low pressure zone comprising a concentric vortex tube that is formed along the axis of the chamber; (3) continuously spraying 30 to 80% of said synthetic detergent slurry in countercurrent directly in the drying zone of cylindrical configuration; at the point below an isotherm of 87.8ºC and above an isotherm of the boiling point, said spraying being achieved with atomizing nozzles evenly spaced practically in a horizontal plane through the cylindrical drying zone, thereby providing the that practically each of the sprays disintegrates into particles within said cylindrical drying zone; (4) continuously spray counter-current the rest of said synthetic detergent slurry directly into the cylindrical configuration drying zone at a point above the 87.8ºC isotherm by means of at least one level of atomizing nozzles evenly spaced, practically in a horizontal plane through the cylindrical drying zone, thereby providing that practically each of the sprays disintegrates into particles inside said cylindrical drying zone, whereby the only disintegrated particles Penetrating low pressure vortex tubes are those that are incidentally transported by the cyclonic movement of the drying gas.
