Abstract

770,325. Labelling-machines. WEISS, J. Aug. 30, 1954 [Oct. 22, 1953], No. 25164/54. Addition to 766,836. Class 73. [Also, in Group XVI] The invention of the parent Specification is now modified by providing two label boxes 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, for applying a front and rear label to each article 3, 4 by arranging the label delivery drum 4 so that it projects into the path of the conveyer 2 to press the article into rolling contact with a strip or a resilient cushion 74. The two boxes are oscillated in timed relationship in such manner that the front label is taken from the box 6 and the rear label taken from the box 6<SP>1</SP>, both labels being then held by suction on a segment 8 of the drum. Associated with each segment are two valves 15 and fixed suction grooves 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, the valves being moved by a cam 16 and by the boxes as in the parent Specification. The two labels are subsequently rolled on the article as shown in Fig. 2, the article rolling over a cushion 74 of foamed rubber, or alternatively over a rubber band or belt held under tension by a spring. A travelling belt 75 may be provided to apply a final pressure to the labels. In place of the two grooves 11, 11<SP>1</SP> a single groove 11, Fig. 2, is provided, this groove terminating in a narrow slot 1111 at the place where the labels are delivered to the articles to cause a relaxation of the suction effect.
