Abstract

770,205. Forging. RIBBACK, E. July 21, 1954 [July 31, 1953; Aug. 1, 1953], No. 21233/54. Class 83 (4). A swaging machine has a plurality of tools 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 5, striking simultaneously crosswise of the axis of the workpiece and driven by a rotary driving shaft 23, whose axis is parallel with the axis of the workpiece, said tools being mounted on tool carriers such as 18, 19 having at their ends remote from the tools contact surfaces which together partly enclose the periphery of the driving shaft but do not completely enclose said periphery in any transverse plane of the shaft. The tools 8, 8<SP>1</SP> are mounted on pivoted levers 18, 19 biased by springs 21 and driven through links 25, 25<SP>1</SP> by eccentrics on the shaft 23. The tool 8<SP>11</SP> is mounted on a slidable carrier 26 driven by another eccentric on the shaft. The pivot shafts of the levers are mounted in eccentric bushes 24, 24<SP>1</SP> which are rotatable by mechanical or hydraulic control means. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), only two tools mounted on pivoted levers are provided. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the tools acting on the workpiece 6, are grooved rollers 7, 71 rotatably mounted on shafts 9, 10 carried respectively by reciprocating members 11, 12 driven by rollers 16 on the rotary driving shaft 4. The shafts 9, 10 may carry further tools whereby a plurality of parallel workpieces may be swaged simultaneously. The members 11, 12 are biased by springs 13, 13<SP>1</SP>. This type of driving shaft may be used in another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), having a pair of pivoted levers carrying the tools. The driving shaft 4, Fig. 1, carries a flywheel 5 and is driven by an electric motor 2 through a safety coupling 3.
