849,291. Truing railway wheels. CRAVEN BROS. (MANCHESTER) Ltd. May 8, 1959 [May 22, 1958], No. 16448/58. Class 83 (3). Railway and like wheels are re-trued on their axles in a machine in which the wheels are driven by friction-rollers engaging the opposite sides of a wheel, and are moved towards one another by levers connected to a common hydraulic unit. The rollers c, Fig. 1, are bevelled and arranged on short inclined shafts in laterally-sliding members n. Key-members p, engaging the frame o, guide the members n. The latter are moved in, to engage the frictionrollers with the wheel a, by levers r, the lower ends of which carry rods u, v, the former connected to an hydraulic cylinder t and the latter to a piston working within the cylinder. The rollers are driven by universal shafts and gears h, i, m, j from an electric motor k, which also drives the friction roller pair for the other wheel (not shown). The turning-tool w is part of a profiling-unit, not described. Specification 824,086 is referred to.
