Abstract

1,096,233. Wheel set lathes. P. LADOVES and H. LACOSTE-TUZAN. March 18, 1965 [March 23, 1964], No.11533/65. Headings B3B and B3T. In a machine for re-shaping railway vehicle wheels, which is template controlled, the wheel set is positioned and supported in the machine and is rotatably driven during the machining operation by a pair of driving rollers 104 in engagement with each wheel tread. To facilitate a constant and regular drive in spite of possible wheel tread surface irregularities, resilient means in the form of an hydropneumatic accumulator 202 is provided in the driving roller hydraulic supporting system which permits a flexibility of movement of the roller supports 105 to compensate for surface irregularities and at the same time transmit a positive drive to the wheel set. The wheel set may be mounted for rotation between centres or where the axle has external or internal axle box, means having an abutment J and C respectively are mounted on the machine frame to facilitate correct alignment and centring of the wheel set. In the latter cases transversely actuated rams V urge rollers G into engagement with the well flanges to effect transverse alignment and rigidity during machining.
