Abstract

1,151,827. Machining railway vehicle wheel sets. HOESCH MASHINENFABRIK DEUTSCHLAND A.G. 17 Nov., 1967 [3 Aug., 1967], No. 52385/67. Heading B3T. In a method of measuring and machining wheel rims of railway vehicles wheel sets whilst they are mounted on the vehicle, the vehicle is raised above its track by lifting devices 7, 8 having rollers 9 engageable with the wheels and which are mounted on trolley units 3, movable in the direction of the track, measuring heads 11 mounted on the trolleys 3 being movable into engagement with the wheel rims, whilst the vehicle is in the raised position, to measure the rim profile. The vehicle is then moved on the trolley units to an underfloor profiling machine 5 whereat the wheel rims of the sets are successively machined, the vehicle being subsequently set back on the track. The support rollers 9 are driven to rotate the wheel sets during measuring and profiling by a motor and gear drive 14, 13 and the trolleys are power driven, to traverse the vehicle, by a drive means 15 which incorporates a braking motor 16. The trolley units are movable on tracks situated below the vehicle tracks 9 parallel thereto. For the profiling operation the wheel sets are lowered to a machining position in the machine and are subsequently resupported and measured after the profiling operation is completed.
