Abstract
824,088. Lathe details. SCOTTISH MACHINE TOOL CORPORATION Ltd. Sept. 17, 1957 [Sept. 18, 1956], No. 28465/56. Class 83 (3). A railway wheel-lathe has a pair of oppositelydisposed vertically-adjustable headstocks 7 (one only shown), carrying centres 8. Transverse rails 2 are carried across the bed of the lathe to take a railway vehicle, and an axle 4 is brought into the vertical plane of the latheaxis, preferably by the method explained in Specification 824,087. The ends 22 of jacklevers 11 rotating about a fulcrum 10, are then brought into engagement with the undersides of the axle-boxes of axle 4. Fluid-pressure cylinders 16 are next operated to force rollers 14 between an inclined-face 12 on the opposite ends of the levers and a projecting ledge 13 on the headstocks. The axle-set is thus raised until brought into the pre-adjusted line of centres, where the jack-system may be set by an adjusting member 23. The wheels 3 may be driven by the device described in Specification 824,086 to effect a turning-operation.
