Abstract

824,086. Lathe details. SCOTTISH MACHINE TOOL CORPORATION Ltd. Sept. 18, 1957 [Sept. 18, 1956], No. 28463/56. Class 83 (3). Work-driving apparatus for a wheel-lathe comprises driven friction rollers engageable with the side-faces of a wheel, and means for moving the rollers into engagement with the work. Rollers 2, 3, Fig. 1, are driven by bevelgears 17, 19, and 18, 20 respectively, from a splined-shaft 16 parallel to the lathe-bed. The rollers engage the side-faces of a wheel 1 to be turned in a lathe. The housings 4, 5, for the roller-drive mechanism are secured to diagonally-arranged pairs of support rods, each housing sliding on the support-rods of the other. End-plates 10, 11, Fig. 2, secured to the pairs of rods at their L.H. ends are connected by an hydraulic piston-and-cylinder device 12. The rollers may thus be brought together or separated by hydraulic action as required.
