A safety-valve comprises a closure member 2 loaded by at least one at least in part spherical reaction member 9 spring-pressed and guided perpendicular to the axis of the valve conduit to engage an inclined surface 8 in member 2, and means stopping the opening of the valve in a position from which it may be closed by its loading. One, two or three reaction members may be used. They may be spring-loaded balls acting on a coned valve, spring-loaded spherical ended pistons acting on a cylindrical valve, or spring-loaded pistons, or spring-loaded bellows acting on the balls. The members 9 may press on the top of a loose ball valve or a ball valve having a guide stem.
