Abstract
766,006. Mixing fluids in flow. URQUHART'S (1926), Ltd. Oct. 11, 1954 [Oct. 9, 1953], No. 27851/53. Class 86 [Also in Group XIII] A duct 6 surrounded by a casing 7 is provided with transverse open-ended tubes 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, 9, 9<SP>1</SP> which each have a longitudinal slit or a longitudinal row of holes. Air or gas, with or without water vapour, flows from the space 10 between the duct 6 and its casing 7 through the tubes and their slits or holes into the gas stream in the duct. Thus a stream of combustion gases from a combustion chamber 1 may be mixed with air from the space 10. The tubes may be arranged in rows, and may be transverse to one another from row to row. Each tube may have a single slit as shown, or two slits directed at an angle to the direction of flow in the duct. The slits may widen towards the centre of the duct 6. The tubes exposed to hotter gases may be ceramic, and the others made of steel. The edges of the slits may be lipped. Some relative dimensions are given.
