687,947. Treating charges. DEVAUX, R. H. P. March 1, 1950 [March 3, 1949], No. 5187/50. Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii) [Also in Group XXVIII] An air filter unit comprises a casing containing a plurality of elongated inclined channel-shaped members facing the air flow and open at their lower ends to atmosphere, the members being so arranged as to effect continual change in direction of the air flowing through the unit such that dust &c. is deposited in the members and thereafter discharged from the unit. As shown, the filter 5 is formed in a casing 1 attached to the inlet of a carburetter and comprises a number of sloping channel members 4 arranged in staggered relation. The rapid change of direction of the air hitting the channels causes dust to be deposited therein and swept away through the lower ends 6 of the tubes which are open to atmosphere. The channels may be of semicircular or rectangular cross section, and may be replaced by corrugated members extending across the casing 1 and provided with holes in staggered relation. An ozonizer and ionizer 7 is situated downstream of the filter 5 and comprises electrodes 9, 10 carrying plates 7, 8 between which a silent discharge occurs.
