Abstract
765,693. Tank fittings. SELF-PRIMING PUMP & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and COLLIVER, H. E. S. June 3, 1955 [June 4, 1954], No. 16664/54. Class 69 (1). A pump installation for an aircraft fuel tank comprises a tubular sump 10 adapted to be attached in an opening in the bottom of a tank 21 and having openings 22 for fuel, a valve seat in the form of a ring 14 of fuel-resistant resilient material extending around the sump, a valve member 23 urged downwardly by a spring 24 and normally held clear of the ring 14 by the upper part of a housing for the motor 34 of a motorpump unit mounted on a detachable closure member 28 having a cylindrical surface cooperating with a sealing ring 31 inside the sump 10 so that when the member 28 is unbolted from the sump 10 and the unit withdrawn the seal between the surface 30 and the sump is maintained until the motor 34 has been withdrawn sufficiently to allow the member 23 to engage the valve seat 14. Gauze 37 encloses the inlet for fuel to the centrifugal pump 35. Specification 557,524, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
