Abstract

765,415. Fuel injectors. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. Feb. 28, 1955, No. 5873/55. Class 7 (3). A fuel injection nozzle comprises an outwardly opening spring-loaded valve 15 which seats at 17 and is provided with a stem portion 27 extending into and of smaller diameter than the discharge orifice 16, the end of the stem being provided with a rectangular groove 30 which, when the valve is open, is located at least partially outside the orifice 16. The valve body 20 is square in section, the corners 20a thereof being rounded to guide the valve in the bore 14. Projections 26 limit the valve movement to prevent the valve body 20 closing the orifice 16. The fuel supply pipe 9 is splayed outwardly and clamped between conical surfaces on the injector body 10 and a clamping nut 12.
