764,996. Broke removal in paper-making machines. DOMINION ENGINEERING WORKS, Ltd. Dec. 31, 1954, No. 37851/54. Class 96. A paper pulp web is transferred by a suction pick-up roll 11 from the wire cloth of a Fourdrinier machine to the underside of a felt 12 which takes it to a press 14, 15, the suction roll 15 aiding in transferring the web to a lower felt 13 by which it is carried through a press 16, 17, the top roll of which may be of granite, and the lower roll 17 a suction roll. A lead strip may be cut in the web at a position 18 between the two presses, and the broke portion doctored at 41 from the granite roll 16, the broke passing over the tail-plate 42 of the doctor and into a trough 22 extending transversely of the machine and containing a screw-conveyer, which feeds the broke to one side of the machine and re-pulps it with the aid of water-sprays, a pipe then returning it to the pulp-supply system of the machine.
