Abstract

764,778. Ball bearings. SAPHIRWERK NIDAU G. BARTH - VUILLEUMIER AKT.- GES. Feb. 10, 1955, No. 3969/55. Class 12 (1). In a ball bearing, the balls 4 and outer race ring 1 are made of precious stone such as agate or ruby. The balls are axially located by rings 6 of steel or hardened glass disposed each side of the race ring 1 and held together in a setting 7. The rings 6 may have annular grooves adjacent the balls. In a modification the outer race comprises two members 16, Fig. 4, forming a conical raceway. Alternatively the members 16 form curved race surfaces and they are retained in a setting 7 by a spring ring 18, Fig. 5. In a further modification, a conical pivot 23 is rotatably mounted by balls 4 in a precious stone race ring 20 the balls being retained by a ring 22. Fig. 7 shows a watch bearing in which the staff 31 is rotatably mounted in a screwthreaded carrier member 25 by balls 4 and jewels 26, 27, 29.
