783,557. Roller bearings. BRITISH TIMKEN, Ltd. Jan. 30, 1956 [March 24, 1955], No. 8552/55. Class 12 (1). In a roller bearing comprising a split inner race 1, 2, the abutting faces 3, 4 of the parts 1, 2 are recessed or rebated to reduce the contact area and thus facilitate grinding of the faces for adjustment purposes. Only one face need be recessed or rebated if desired and, alternatively or additionally, the invention may be applied to a split outer race. In a modification, outer race parts 55, 56 are spaced apart by a distance ring 59 and the adjacent faces of the parts 55, 56 contain recesses 59a, 60. Alternatively, recesses are formed in the contact faces of the distance ring 59.
