Abstract
947,829. Bearings. TORRINGTON CO. April 27, 1962, No. 16092/62. Heading F2A. A cage, for a spherical roller bearing, comprises a main retaining ring 15 with side walls 16, 17 as shown, fingers 18 projecting laterally from the wall 17, and a seat 19 in the wall 16, on which a second retainer ring 20 is slidably accommodated with fingers 21 projecting laterally away from the fingers 18. The width of the ring 20 with fingers 21 is approximately half the combined width of the rings 15 and 20 and the width of the seat 19 is approximately equal to the corresponding width of the ring 20 with fingers 21. The cage, bearing-race members 8 and 10 and two series of rollers 12, 13 disposed therebetween, located by the fingers 18, 21, make up the roller bearing. The member 10 has two concave raceways 11 separated by a land 14 which slidably supports the ring 15. In a modified form the inner surfaces of the fingers lie in'a common plane. The outer surfaces thereof may be straight or curvilinear.
