Abstract

763,612. Knitting. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Nov. 4, 1953, No. 30501/53. Class 74 (2). A warp knitting-machine for making carpets or like pile fabrics has two series of yarn guides adapted to traverse over the needles when the needles are lowered, one 24 of which feeds a ground yarn and the other 25 a pile yarn. After each traversing movement of these guides the needles are raised so that the ground and pile yarns extend across the backs of the needles and to receive threads from warp guides 22. The warp threads are then knitted by the needles enclosing between them the ground and pile yarns, the pile yarn being drawn over a former 50 to produce loops which are later cut by an edge 51 on the former as the fabric is withdrawn. The warp guides are subsequently swung down to the rear of the needles so that their threads clear the guides 24, 25 which are thereby permitted to further traverse the needles whereafter the warp guides are raised to again feed yarn to the needles. The cutting edge 51 may be omitted if uncut pile loops are required. The guides 24, 25 are of the form disclosed in Specification 763,613.
