Abstract
772,809. Knitting. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Aug. 8, 1955, No. 22792/55. Class 74 (2). A warp knitting-machine for making carpets or like pile fabrics has two series of yarn guides adapted to traverse over the needles when the needles are lowered, one 32 of which feeds a ground yarn and the other 31 a pile yarn over stationary formers 50. After each traversing movement of these guides the needles are raised between the formers so that the ground and pile yarns extend across the backs of the needles. In this raised position the needles receive warp threads from warp guides 28. The ground and pile yarn guides are then withdrawn from between the needles and the needles lowered to knit the warp thread about the ground and pile yarns. Simultaneously the needle bed 23 is raised to cause the fabric to be gripped between its upper edge and the lower edge of the formers, Fig. 7, thereby preventing the pile loops from being stretched whilst the warp thread is knitted about the face and ground yarns. On completion of the knitting action by the needles and whilst they are in their lowered position prior to further feeding of the ground and face yarns, a bar member 66 which extends through a slot 52 in each former is advanced to engage the last formed pile loop and move it and the previous loops along the former, thereby assisting the action of the fabric take-up mechanism. A cutter 51 may be positioned on each former which severs the loops passing along the former as the fabric is taken up. Specification 763,612 is referred to.
