Abstract

761,867. Cutting vegetation. PEARSON, T. R., and CRIDLAND, R. July 22, 1954 [July 24, 1953], No. 20623/53. Class 6(3). A machine for cutting haulms of root crops comprises two sets of bladed cutters 5, 5a, 6, 6a mounted on the front of a tractor to rotate about vertical axes and being driven from a power shaft on the tractor. As shown the cutters 5, 5a are mounted on a shaft 7 which is supported in a housing 9 and is driven through bevel gears 24 from a shaft 21 mounted in a tube 16 which is pivoted at the rear of the tractor and is slidable in guide plates 19 and adjusted by a hand-lever 25. The shaft 21 is driven from the tractor power shaft by belt gearing 22, 23. The cutters 6, 6a are mounted on a shaft 8 carried in a housing 10 provided with a tube 14 which co-operates with a shaft 13 fixed on the housing 9 to enable the housing 10 to be adjusted transversely. The shaft 8 is driven from a pulley 11 on the shaft 7 by a belt 12.
