Abstract
A graphite electrode used in electrolytic processes contains silver or a compound of silver in an amount from 0.01 per cent to 15 per cent by weight of the electrode. The silver may be introduced by impregnating the electrode with a solution or suspension of silver nitrate, sulphate, fluoride or chloride or other compound of silver. The process may be carried out under vacuum and pressure and the electrode may then be heated to reduce the compound to metallic silver. The electrode may be impregnated in addition with linseed oil or other vegetable drying oil, halogenated naphthalene or resins.
