Abstract

A sintered porous metal body such as nickel is produced from a shaped mixture of nickel powder, graphite and a binder which is sintered at 1150-1200 DEG C. and the sintered body is then heated to 1100 DEG C. in a decarbonizing atmosphere such as carbon dioxide or wet hydrogen to eliminate the graphite from the sintered body. According to an example the powder mixture consists of equal volumes of nickel and graphite, the binder being tragacanth gum in water.
