Abstract

758,117. Positive clutches; operating clutches. HOOVER, Ltd. Feb. 2, 1954 [Feb. 3, 1953], No. 3141/54. Class 80(2) [Also in Groups VIII and XIII] Positive clutches. The drive mechanism of a washing machine (see Group VIII) includes a clutch comprising a driving shaft 100 (Fig. 3) carrying a centrifugal pump impeller 102, and a driven shaft 105 carrying a plate 107 with projecting pins 108 adapted to extend . between the adjacent vanes of the impeller 102. The shaft 105 is movable axially against the bias of a spring 109. Operating clutches. Another clutch (Fig. 1, not shown) is operated by means of a collar 46 (Fig. 7) having a flange 44 received in a groove in the shiftable member of the clutch. The collar is provided with slots 49 terminating in upper and lower horizontal stop sections 50, 51. The slots 49 receive stationary pins (riot shown) projecting diametrically from a stationary sleeve, so that rotary motion of the collar 46 results in engagement and disengagement of the axially movable clutch member.
