Abstract

1287256 Washing machines MASCHINENFABRIK AD SCHULTHESS & CO AG 19 April 1971 [1-March 1971] 26562/71 Heading D1A [Also in Division F2] A selective drive mechanism for a drum 3 of a washing machine comprises a reversible wash speed motor 8 driving through a first pulley 11, which is rotatable on the hub 13 of a second pulley 14, a centrifugal clutch 18/19 the second pulley 14 and a driving pulley 7 on the drum and a reversible spin speed motor 9 driving through a fluid coupling 21 and the second pulley 14 which is rotatable on the output shaft 12 of the motor 9, the centrifugal clutch disconnecting the drive between the first and second pulleys above a predetermined pulley speed. The pulleys 11 and 14, the centrifugal clutch and the fluid coupling 21 are mounted on a sleeve 16 and removable as a unit from the motor output shaft 12 when the bolt 25 is removed. The centrifugal clutch comprises an annular flange 18 of the first pulley 11 and a number of segmental drivers 19 which are maintained in frictional engagement with the flange 18 by resilient elements 20 which transmit the drive to the annular flange 17 of the pulley 14 until they are compressed by centrifugal force acting on the drivers.
