A turning-lathe comprises a headsupporting bracket 2, a tail-supporting bracket 1 and two parallel bedmembers 3, one end of each of which engages a slot in the bracket 2 which is hollow and has an inwardly directed spigot 12 formed with the slots 4 for the bed-members. The headstock 5 is separately mounted on the bracket 2 and located by dowel pins 6. The face of the bracket 2 opposite to that formed with the slots may be adapted for the temporary attachment of accessories such as a sawing-table, and the rear end of the headstock-spindle may be formed to take a chuck or a saw. The tailstock 7 has a projection fitting between the bed members 3 and is clamped thereto, after adjustment, by a handle 8.
