Apparatus for weighing and transporting granular or pulverulent material comprises a container 12, the outlet of which is connected by a flexible sleeve 11 to an activator 10, an axially-displaceable tube 15 having a flared mouth 16 which co-operates with a seating in the mouth of the activator to control the flow of material, lugs 13 for supporting the activator on the knife edges of a weighing mechanism, a discharge pipe 18 extending axially through the tube 15 and means whereby on movement of the tube 15 to close the inlet, compressed air may be supplied to the activator to blow the material contained therein through the pipe 18. The upper end of the tube 15 is connected to a stuffing box 21 mounted on the pipe 18 by a flexible sleeve 22. The tube 15 is pivoted to a lever 24 which is pivoted at 25 and moved by a fluid-pressure actuated ram 26. The supply of fluid to the ram may be controlled by the weighing mechanism. The outlet of the activator is connected to a pipe 17, the end of which is located within the mouth of the tube 15. The ends of the pipes 17, 18 are formed with cooperating elements 20, 19 which form an airtight joint when the activator is raised by the ram 26. Compressed air is supplied to the chambers 12, 10 by connections 23b, 23a. Porous plates may be provided in the lower part of the chamber 12 through which air is supplied to aerate the material.
