[Also in Group X] An apparatus for scattering heated sand comprises a hopper 2 with a controlled outlet through rollers 4 into a space heated by a burner 7. The heated sand is scattered by a distributing roller 9. Heating nozzles 10 preheat the road to initiate thawing. A fuel tank 12 supplies petrol via a pump operated by the petrol engine 13. The rollers are driven from the road wheels through a clutch mechanism.
