269,279. Wood, D., Wood, I., and Davy, G. Feb. 10, 1926. Surface heating apparatus.-A road surface is heated prior to the rolling in of grit or stone chippings by a series of nozzle-shaped burners 3 carried by a frame 2 which can be fitted in front of each of the rollers of a road roller. Liquid fuel fed under pressure from a tank on the vehicle is led to a transverse pipe 7 within the frame 2. The pipe 9 fitted with the burners 3 is fed with fuel by coiled pipes 8 which lead from the pipe 7 round some of the burners to preheat the fuel. The frame 2, which is fitted with gauzecovered front and rear openings 10, 11, has a sliding bottom 13 operated by a handle 15, and is adjustable to and from the ground by rack and pinion gear 18, 19.
