Abstract

384,881. Ornamenting wood. CLEFF, W., 11, Weihermattstrasse, Sackingen-on- Rhine, Germany. April 6, 1932, No. 9862. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 9, 1932.] [Class 93.] A plastic effect combined with colouring effects is produced on the surface of wood from coniferous trees by heating the wood, then partially charring one side in a closed compartment, and finally removing the carbon dust and cleaning the wood by means of steel brushrollers the pressure of which can be regulated. As shown, a board 17 is fed by rollers 12, 121, the speed of which may be regulated, through a casing 2, 5 containing. gas-heated rollers 4 whereby heat is applied to the bottom side of the wood, and containing also burners 9 adapted to char the top surface. The wood then passes through a chamber 8 containing rotary brushes 10 and provided with a hood 15 and flue 16 for removing the carbon dust and is finally subjected to the action of coarse and fine steel brush-rollers 11, 11a respectively the pressure of which can be regulated to vary the effects produced.
