Burners, mounting; overflow fittings.-The shield 1 enclosing the burners 4 of a wheeled apparatus for applying heat to road surfaces is pivoted at 19 to lever means 15, 17 fulcrumed to the wheel axle 18 for the purpose of moving the shield and burners bodily towards or away from the road surface. Catches 24 engage the handle 14 to retain the shield in the raised position and the lever arm 15 rests against a stop 21 when the shield is lowered. To prevent oil dripping or blowing on to the road surface, the oil-burners 4 fed by a pipe 6 have a drip-tray 26 forming an extension of the usual lighting-tray 25-
