Abstract
694,768. Tar macadam making. BAUMGARDNER. V. F. Dec. 24, 1951 [Aug. 30, 1951], No. 30117/51. Class 107 A tar macadam making machine, especially useful for making the product in small quantities, comprises material supply means, an adjacent liquid storage tank, a mixing unit extending through the tank and surrounded by the liquid, but sealed therefrom, and storage means adjacent to the mixing unit for the finished product. The equipment is mounted on a common frame. The frame 1 carries a material hopper 8, the exit of which is controlled by a movable flap 14 and a driven feed roller 16, and which feeds into the mixing unit 10 where it is sprayed by the liquid binder supplied by pump 50 from the liquid storage tank 9. The mixer unit extends through the tank 9 to an outlet 35 and a storage space 12. The platform 42 is accessible by shovels which are used to remove the material as required. The heater 11 extending within the liquid tank is an oilfired U-shaped tube. The amount of liquid sprayed on the material is governed by a valve, the excess being returned via a pipe 65 to the end of the tank remote from the draw-off 51, and may be provided with an external connection to supply the liquid direct to the road.
