Abstract

756,248. Doors. EXPRESS LIFT CO., Ltd. June 1, 1955 [June I, 1954], No. 16231/54. Class 20(3). A fire resisting door, particularly for use in lift equipment, comprises a steel framework 1 of angle members 2 having attached thereto an outer panelling 3 of fluted aluminium cut away towards the top to provide an aperture 4 for a glass window, and an inner panelling of sheet steel 5, a loose packing of asbestos slag wool 6 being sandwiched between the panelling 4, 5 and a screen of heat resisting mesh 11, e.g. steel wire netting, being arranged inside the door directly behind the aluminium panelling 3 to retain the packing 6 in position should the panelling 3 melt. Vertical stiffeners 9, 10, secured to the panel 3, define the width of the aperture 4, straps 7, 8 being secured at their ends to the frame 1 to help to support the asbestos wool 6. The wire mesh 11 is bound by wires 12 to the straps 7, 8, the stiffeners 9, 10 and to the angle members 2. If desired, the inside.surface of the aluminium panel 3 and the wire mesh 11 may be painted before the packing is placed thereon during the assembly of the door. The inside surface of the steel panelling 5 may also be painted and applied to the framework 1 while the paint is still wet.
