Abstract
Pile fabrics are impregnated with an aqueous solution having a pH not above 6 and containing a crystalloidal intermediate condensation product of a synthetic resin known to confer crease resistance on the fabric there being dispersed in the solution a polysiloxane containing a multiplicity of the structural units -Si(R1R2)O-, where R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl or aryl group or chemical bond and R2 is an alkyl or aryl group; thereafter the fabrics are dried and heated to insolubilize the resin and render the polysiloxane infusible. The resin may be a precondensate of ureaformaldehyde and the polysiloxane may be methyl hydrogen polysiloxane. The aqueous solution may contain ammonium phosphate or ammonium dihydrogen phosphate as catalyst, and a non-ionic softener. The pH may be adjusted with acetic acid. The fabric may be composed wholly of regenerated cellulose or may comprise a regenerated cellulose backing and a mixed cotton-viscose rayon pile. The pile may be raised or cut. The treated fabric may be dried on a stenter at 100 DEG C. and baked in a heated chamber at 130 DEG -180 DEG C. The fabric may be dre-dyed and, after baking, may be pattern-embossed. Specification 695,703 is referred to.
