Abstract
519,734. Treating textiles with resins. SCHUBERT, H., SCHUBERT, H. A., SCHUBERT, B., and SCHUBERT, E. Sept. 28, 1938, No. 28255. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1937. [Class 15(ii)] , Textile materials are treated with an artificial resin condensation product and an artificial resin polymerization product, both formed in situ by heat treatment. The materials are rendered crease-resisting, less liable to shrink or swell and of improved handle; they may be stiffened or loaded. The treating solution may also contain catalysts or anti-catalysts, protective colloids or dispersing agents. As condensation resins there may be used phenolformaldehyde or urea-formaldehyde resins, as polymerized resins there may be used polymerized styrol, acrolein or vinyl compounds. In examples (1) cellulose hydrate fibres are treated with a solution containing phenol, formaldehyde, formic acid, polyvinyl alcohol, ammonium acetate and fatty alcohol sulphonate as protective colloid ; the material is dried and heated for 10 mins. at 120‹C. ; (2) cellulose hydrate fibres are saturated in a solution containing urea, thiourea, hexamethylene' tetramine, common salt, ammonium acetate, tartaric acid and glyoxal; the material is dried and heated for 20 mins. at 120‹C.
