Abstract
A composition for use in the treatment of cellulosic fabrics comprises an acidic aqueous colloidal solution of a partially polymerized methyl ether of a methylol melamine condensation product containing at least 2.8 mols. of combined formaldehyde and at least 2 mols. of combined methanol per mol. of melamine, the solution also containing acetic, hydroxyacetic or formic acid. The colloidal solution may be mixed with a solution or dispersion of a thermoplastic resin, e.g. polyvinyl acetate and copolymers thereof with maleic acid or maleic anhydride, polymethacrylic acid, polyacrylic acid, polyvinyl alcohol or polystyrene. Specification 674,645 is referred to.ALSO:Textile fabrics containing cellulosic yarns, e.g. cotton, linen or regenerated cellulose yarns, are given a permanently stiffened finish, an improved dimentional stability, and on a previously dyed fabric an improved resistance to dye-bleeding, by impregnation with an acidic aqueous colloidal solution of a partially polymerized methyl ether of methylol melamine condensation product containing at least 2.8 mols of combined formaldehyde and at least 2 mols of combined methanol per mol of melamine, the solution having been rendered acidic by the addition of acetic, hydroxy-acetic or formic acid, and the amount of solution supplied and the concentration thereof being so adjusted as to deposit on the fabric from 1 to 12 per cent by weight of the condensation product based on the weight of the fabric and finally drying the treated fabric. The colloidal solution may be mixed with an acid-stable aqueous solution or dispersion of a thermoplastic resin, e.g. polyvinyl acetate and copolymers with maleic acid or maleic anhydride, polymethacrylic acid, polyacrylic acid, polyvinyl alcohol or polystyrene. Specification 674,645 is referred to.
