Abstract

755,657. Reciprocating pumps. STOKES, R. O. March 10, 1955 [March 10, 1954], No. 7009/54. Class 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] A multi-throw reciprocating pump comprises spring-loaded plungers 3 actuated by eccentrics 2 on a shaft 1 ; the shaft being driven through reduction gearing from an electric motor. Each plunger reciprocates in a cylinder 5 connected by a chamber 7 and a valve 17, 19 to a pipe 8 leading to a ram. Each chamber 7 has a spring- loaded inlet valve 10 and a spring-loaded relief valve 11. The valve 17, 19 is a combined inlet and exhaust valve and is built into the pump body. When oil is to be pumped to the rams, a lever 27 is turned to lower a spring loaded tappet 23 whereby the valve 19 is opened and the valve 17 is closed. The pumped oil passes through the open valve 19 and raises the valve 17 against a loading spring. When the pump withdraws oil from the rams, the lever 27 is turned to raise the tappet and close the valve 19 whereupon a spigot 20 raises the valve 17. Oil drawn through the valve 17 opens the valve 19 against its loading spring. Specification 408,303 [Group I] is referred to.
