Abstract

A lubricating grease comprises castor oil thickened to the consistency of a grease with the calcium soap of 12-hydroxy stearic acid. The grease may contain 10 to 40 per cent by weight of the calcium hydroxy stearate. 12-hydroxy stearic acid may be saponified with calcium hydroxide in the castor oil in situ, followed by dehydration of the soap and addition of further castor oil. The grease may also contain anti-oxidants, particularly amino compounds, extreme pressure agents containing sulphur, halogen, and/or phosphorus.
