Abstract

A lubricating grease composition comprises a lubricating oil, a thickener other than a lead soap and 1 to 10 per cent by weight of the total composition of a lead carbonate dispersed in the grease. The lubricating oil may be a mineral oil or a synthetic oil, and the thickener may be a metal soap of a C10 to C30 aliphatic carboxylic acid. The metal soap is preferably a calcium soap, and a specific example is calcium 12-hydroxy stearate. Other thickeners may be used such as carbon black, silica gel and bentonite. The lead carbonate may be basic or neutral.
