Abstract

1,230,949. Greases. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 2 June, 1969 [22 June, 1968], No. 27735/69. Heading C5F. A lubricating grease comprises a mineral oil, a metal soap, e.g. 10 wt. per cent of lithium 12- hydroxystearate, and an anti-corrosion additive comprising a naphthenate and a barium sulphonate. The grease suitably contains about 0À5 wt. per cent of a petroleum or alkaryl sulphonate in which the hydrocarbyl group has a molecular weight of 330-430, e.g. barium dinonylnaphthalene sulphonate, and about 1À5 wt. per cent of lead, lithium, zinc or magnesium naphthenate or of a mixture of these naphthenates.
