Abstract

1422204 Mist oil lubricants CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 19 July 1973 [19 July 1972] 34548/73 Heading C5F A lubricating oil composition used in a mist oil lubricating system, comprises 0À001-2 wt. per cent of an oil-soluble copolymer of ethylene and another monomeric olefin having a viscosity average molecular weight of at least 5000. In examples the ability of ethylene-propylene copolymers to suppress stray mist is compared to that of polyisobutylene, polypropylene and polyalkylmethacrylates. The base oil can be a mineral oil, e.g. a 500 SUS (at 100‹ F.) neutral oil or a blend thereof with a 4000 SUS bright stock, or a synthetic oil such as alkyl, aryl or alkaryl phosphate esters, alkyl benzenes, polyoxyalkylene esters or glycols, ortho silicates and siloxanes. The compositions can also contain other additives such as zinc dialkyldithiophosphates and polyalkylmethacrylates.
