Abstract

In a process of lubrication, gas at super atmospheric pressure is passed into a lubricating oil which contains a minor proportion of a polymeric additive having a number average molecular weight of at least 10,000, and the micro-fog obtained is accelerated before being directed on to the surface to be lubricated. The polymeric additive may be a copolymer of vinyl acetate and a fumarate or maleate <FORM:1099450/C4-C5/1> ester, or polyisobutene. The average molecular weight of the additive may be between 20,000 and 1,000,000, and the percentage of additive may be between 0.1 and 2 per cent by weight.
