Abstract

A sealing composition comprises 0.5 to 10% by wt., based on the total wt. of the composition, of a polybutadiene dissolved or intimately incorporated in from 10 to 20% by wt. of an oil in which the polymer is soluble or partially soluble and from 80 to 90% by wt. of a filler, the polybutadiene having a 1,4 addition structure of substantially 90% and being polymerized by a lithium alkyl catalyst. The filler is preferably whiting or in some circumstances clay. The polybutadiene is preferably a homopolymer, but may be a copolymer containing a minor amount of comonomer. The oil is preferably a vegetable oil, but may be a mineral oil.
