Abstract
A method to improve the expansion ability of current commercial type thermoplastic styrene polymers, under the effect of the action of a swelling agent, characterized in that it is intimately mixed with said base (A) thermoplastic styrene polymer, before that the latter is subjected to expansion, a resinous thermoplastic polymer (B) obtained by polymerization of at least one styrene monomer or by copolymerization of such monomer with a comonomer containing a radical (see formula); said resinous polymer having an average molecular weight greater than 3,105, preferably 106, but in any case higher than that of the base polymer (a), and showing good compatibility with the latter, at a rate of 1 to 40 parts by weight of additive polymer (B) per 100 parts of base polymer (A).
