Abstract
1,269,661. Bituminous compositions containing polyolefins. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 16 Dec., 1969 [17 Jan., 1969], No. 2842/69. Headings C3N and C3P. A thermoplastic moulding composition contains a polyolefin and coal dissolved in tar or tar oils. The term polyolefin is'defined as a polymer the majority of whose monomers are olefins and may be polyethylene, polypropylene or copolymers of ethylene and either propylene or vinyl acetate. The coal dissolved in tar or tar oil may be present in the mixture in the range 20 to 80% by weight and the polyolefin may be present in the mixture in an amount of up to 80% by weight. The coal dissolved in tar or tar oil may be prepared by digesting coal or colliery tailings in tar or tar oils at a temperature of 370-450‹ C. for up to 12 hours. The composition may also contain fillers such as chalk or clay in the range 5-80% by weight. Examples refer to (1) digested coal and tar oil mixed with 30% by weight polyethylene and (2) digested colliery "tailings" and tar oil mixed with 60%, by weight of the digest, polypropylene.
