Abstract

1400020 Greases LABOFINA SA 1 Nov 1972 [15 March 1972] 50399/72 Heading C5F A lubricating grease comprises 5-25 wt. per cent, based on the weight of grease, of a thickening soap, 1-10 wt. per cent, based on the weight of grease, of a stabilized anionic emulsion of unoxidized polyethylene having a mean mol. wt. of more than 10,000, and a particle size between 0À02 and 0À5 microns, the emulsion containing 35-60 wt. per cent of polyethylene and 8-12 wt. per cent of anionic emulsifier, the rest of the composition being an oleaginous vehicle which may contain usual additives. In examples, the vehicle is mineral oil, naphthenic oil or a mixture of naphthenic oil and 2-ethylhexyl adipate. The soap may be a salt of 12-hydroxystearic, palmitic, oleic, benzostearic, acetopalmitic or toluostearic acid. Anti-oxidants, EP agents and rust preventatives are specified. The grease may be made by mixing the soap and base oil at elevated temperature adding the emulsion, cooling to form a gel, and homogenizing the gel.
