Class 145 [Also in Group XV] Plywood sheet for furniture or building construction is given a decorative finish by cutting a series of spaced parallel grooves 2 through the entire thickness of the surface ply 1 on at least one side face of the plywood and the grain of the wood of the grooved surface ply is oriented in the same direction as the grain of the wood of the underlying ply 7. The grooves in the surface ply are preferably cut parallel to the grain in the two plies 1 and 7 in order to provide a smooth bottom face and smooth side face to each groove. The grooves 2 may extend partially into the layers 7. To reduce the tendency of the plywood to warp, the plies 1 and 7 on both sides of the plywood may have their grain running in the same direction. The cross section of the grooves and of the wood 4 between the grooves may be rectangular, or curved to give a corrugated surface, and the spacing of the grooves may be regular or irregular.
