[Class 145 (ii)] [See also Group X] The core of a composite plate comprises laths 13, Fig. 3, connected by tongues and grooves ; the height of the tongues is greater than the depth of the grooves so that the laths are spaced. The laths may be divided into portions spaced in the direction of their length. In a modification, Fig. 4, the laths are grooved on both sides and connected by loose tongues 18 whose width is greater than twice the depth of the grooves, so that the laths are spaced. The loose strip 18 may be subdivided into portions the combined length of which is less than that of a lath. The core is faced on both sides with veneers. A plate may comprise, Fig. 5, two cores of tongued and grooved laths arranged with the tongues in opposite directions, a middle veneer 21 and facing veneers.
