A floor slab 10 comprises an upper finishing layer 11, e.g. of vinyl plastics material, at least one intervening layer 13 of multi-ply timber, partition board or the like and a bottom sheet 12 of metal, e.g. steel bonded to one another under heat and pressure by means of an adhesive, each side face of the slab being formed with an under-cut 14, the bottom edges thereof being radiused as at 15. Preferably the metal sheet has cut-away corners. Two intermediate layers of multi-ply timber or the like may be provided separated by a second sheet of metal.
